Intel Hires Freescale 3G System Engineers in Toulouse, France

PARIS, Oct. 8, 2009 - Enhancing its 3G wireless capabilities around the company's Intel® Atom™ processor and products including smart phones and MIDs, Intel Corporation today hired a team of approximately 50 system integration engineers from Freescale's Cellular Products Group based in Toulouse, France.

The Toulouse team brings a history of solid experience in building wireless system solutions based on platform ingredients, such as modem, connectivity and application processors. The engineers will aid in the development of Atom-based platforms that enable the delivery of Internet computing in your pocket with a choice of high-bandwidth mobile broadband communications.

The 3G system integration and validation engineers will not need to be relocated since Intel has leased their existing offices in Toulouse. The engineers will begin work immediately and will collaborate with Intel teams around the world.

"The French Government is determined to boost R&D activities throughout the country," said Christian Estrosi, Minister for Industry. "Moreover, what better proof could there be of France's attractiveness to the research community than this latest Intel investment in Toulouse, on the heels of that in February in Sophia Antipolis, which sends out a very clear signal to the global stakeholders in the new technologies."

"Intel's technology leadership is dependent on our ability to employ talented people with critical skills," said Stéphane Nègre, Intel France president. "I'd like to personally welcome the Toulouse team and their wealth of system integration expertise to the Intel family as we continue to grow our wireless businesses and address customer requirements worldwide. "We are making the investments necessary to offer the most reliable Atom-based platforms operating on 3G or WiMAX 4G networks."

"We welcome with the greatest satisfaction Intel's decision to locate its third French research site in Toulouse, thus supporting development of the economic and technological potential of the Midi-Pyrénées region," said Michel Mercier, Minister for Rural Areas and Land Use Planning.
