Commitment, Performance, Challenges Highlighted in Intel's Corporate Responsibility Report

Intel Corporation's newly published corporate responsibility report details the company's evolution in its focus areas in corporate responsibility, which include environment, education, supply chain management, workforce and community.
"Telling Intel's story of corporate responsibility in a sound byte is impossible, hence the 90-page report," said Dave Stangis, Intel's director of corporate responsibility. "Since CSR is complex and ever-changing, we also keep our stakeholders updated through blogs, e-newsletters, and changes on our Web site."
Highlights of the report include: -- Environmental performance improvements in operations resulted in the recycling of more than 80 percent of waste generated, up from 70 percent last year -- Training more than 5 million teachers to date in more than 40 countries in the Intel(R) Teach Program -- Increasing total volunteer hours to more than 550,000, with 38 percent of employees participating worldwide -- Promoting supply chain responsibility through its role in the Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition and the evaluation of a significant number of high-risk suppliers -- With more than 17,000 employees participating in the Health for Life wellness program last year, the program will expand globally this year
In 2007, Intel was the only U.S. company named as a supersector leader by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and was number 1 in the technology industry on CRO Magazine's Best Corporate Citizens list.
Intel made several changes to its report this year, in response to stakeholder feedback and evolving best practices in corporate responsibility reporting. For example, to continue to drive for a balanced account of its corporate responsibility performance, the company has expanded its data disclosure to include five years of trending data and includes a list of current challenges in addition to key achievements in each major section. Also new to the report this year is a management strategy and analysis section which highlights where the company's priorities in CSR lie, and why.
