Strategic Priorities

At Intel, our strategy is to deliver the world’s best semiconductors for an increasingly data-centric world. Over the last few years, we’ve initiated a transition from being a PC-centric company to a data-centric one and expanded our product offerings in order to seize new market opportunities.

By focusing on our four strategic priorities – accelerating the growth of the company, improving our execution, thoughtfully deploying our capital and evolving our culture – we can have a larger impact on our customers’ success.

2024 Total Addressable Market: ~$300B

Based on our analytics, we anticipate a total addressable market (TAM) of nearly $300 billion by the year 2024. In addition to this TAM, we also see opportunities beyond silicon in areas like software and services.

Accelerating Our Growth

We are driving innovation forward and striving to become an even bigger part of our customers’ success.  We have entered new markets and broadened our technologies, expanding our opportunities for growth within an estimated total addressable market of $300 billion. Our solutions span well beyond PCs and servers, enabling customers to solve challenges across cloud, the Internet of Things (IoT), AI, 5G, autonomous driving, and the intelligent edge.

Lead Technology Inflections

Our strategic intent is to lead in key technology inflections that are fundamentally changing computing and communications. The most important drivers of change we see today are AI, the transformation of networks spearheaded by the transition to 5G, and the rise of the intelligent edge. We see a future where Intel® technologies enable our customers to move data faster, store more, and process everything—from large complex applications in the cloud, to autonomous cars and small low-power devices at the edge.

Focus:

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to unlock value from data and makes new business models and experiences possible. We offer a combination of hardware and software technologies that deliver broad capabilities to support computing, storage, transmission, and tuning in AI.

Improving Our Execution

We are committed to continual product innovation. Our customers’ success is our obsession—and our mission is to deliver the technology leadership and reliable, top-quality products they need and expect. Software and silicon solutions that produce quantifiable and scalable results for our customers require our flawless execution.

Intel’s Six Pillars of Technology Innovation

Intel helped define the modern world of computing. Now, as we have evolved from our role as a PC-centric company to becoming a data-centric company, we measure our progress beyond advances in transistors and CPUs. With innovation across our six fundamental technology pillars, we are shaping the data-centric future. A future in which Intel powers the world—and democratizes compute power for all.

  • Process and packaging: We are creating a new wave of compute engines that mix and match different process technologies and then connect them with high-performance, low-power packaging technologies such as Embedded Multi-die Interconnect Bridge (EMIB) and Foveros, the industry’s first implementation of stacked processing components.
  • xPU architectures: We are designing processors that span four major computing architectures, moving us toward an era of heterogeneous computing.
  • Memory: With our Intel® 3D NAND and Intel® Optane™ technology, we are developing products to disrupt the memory and storage hierarchy.
  • Advanced interconnect: We deliver leading technologies that scale from microns to miles across all interconnect layers—spanning on-die, on-package, data center, and long-distance networks.
  • Security: We are dedicated to assisting our customers and industry partners in developing new and innovative ways to improve security. Together with customers and partners, Intel is building a more trusted foundation in this datacentric world.
  • Software: Our software unleashes the potential of hardware across all workloads, domains, and architectures.

Deploying Our Capital

Capital Allocation

Our financial capital allocation strategy emphasizes building stockholder value. We are focused on three priorities: 1) investing in R&D and capital spending to strengthen our competitive position, 2) investing in companies around the world that will complement our strategic objectives and stimulate growth of data-centric opportunities, and 3) returning cash to shareholders in the form of dividends and share buyback programs, all while maintaining an investment grade credit rating and financial flexibility via a strong balance sheet. We returned approximately 90% of free cash flow to investors from 2015 to 2019.

Spotlight: Big Bets

To be at the forefront of the constant technological change in our industry, we must evaluate new and existing big bets based on the following criteria: the “bet” is leading the edge of a technology inflection, it plays a significant role in our customers’ success, and it offers a clear path to profitability and attractive returns. Our current big bets are memory, autonomous driving, and 5G.
